Sole Arbitrator

A single person appointed (by agreement of parties or by court under Section 11 A&C Act, 1996) to adjudicate a dispute in arbitration proceedings.

DLSA Panel Advocate

An advocate on the panel of the Delhi Legal Services Authority — appointed under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to be assigned matters under the legal aid scheme for persons eligible under the Act.

Advocate-Client Privilege

How do I know if an advocate is duly enrolled and can legally practise?+

Every advocate in India must be enrolled with a State Bar Council under the Advocates Act, 1961. You can verify enrolment on the Bar Council of India's online verification portal or at the respective State Bar Council office. All advocates at ASK Law Xperts are enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi. Enrolment details are available on request.

What is the difference between a Senior Advocate and an Associate Advocate?+

In India, the term "Senior Advocate" as used by the Supreme Court or High Courts is a formal designation conferred by the court under Section 16 of the Advocates Act, 1961 — on the basis of ability, standing, and experience. At the law firm level, "Senior Advocate" and "Associate Advocate" are internal designations reflecting the advocate's seniority and experience within the firm — not the formal court-conferred designation under Section 16. The firm uses these terms in this internal, organisational sense only.

Can Adv. Sanjay Kumar be appointed as Sole Arbitrator in our dispute?+

Yes — Adv. Sanjay Kumar accepts appointments as Sole Arbitrator in commercial and civil disputes by mutual consent of the parties. Amendment — Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023

BNS, BNSS & BSA — New Criminal Laws (2024)

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA) replaced the Indian Penal Code, CrPC, and Indian Evidence Act respectively from 1 July 2024. All criminal matters filed from that date are governed by the new laws. Practice at the firm extends to matters under both the new Sanhitas and the transitional provisions applicable to cases filed before 1 July 2024.

Under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, free legal aid is available to persons from economically weaker sections, women, children, SC/ST persons, victims of trafficking, and persons with disabilities.
