Amendment — Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023
BNS, BNSS & BSA — New Criminal Laws (2024)
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA) replaced the Indian Penal Code, CrPC, and Indian Evidence Act respectively from 1 July 2024. All criminal matters filed from that date are governed by the new laws. Practice at the firm extends to matters under both the new Sanhitas and the transitional provisions applicable to cases filed before 1 July 2024.

Arbitration Framework — Amendments of 2015, 2019 & 2021
The Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 governs domestic and international commercial arbitration in India. Successive amendments in 2015, 2019, and 2021 introduced timelines for completion of proceedings, provisions on the conduct and independence of arbitrators, and changes relating to interim measures and enforcement. In Perkins Eastman (2020), the Supreme Court held that a party having an interest in the outcome of a dispute cannot unilaterally appoint a sole arbitrator. These provisions apply to arbitral proceedings conducted under the Act.
